BIRDS CASE GUIDE

BIRDS CASE GUIDE

Students:   6ª Graders, EI JER
Time: 30 min, groups of 5 students
Objective:  to read and answer set questions, habitual actions or states related to birds in the city
Warm up: explanation of characteristics of the birds. ie: Parrots speak, ducks swim and macaws fly and lie eggs
Vocabulary:  raise, hen, chicken, macaw, duck, quails. Fowl, farm. Countryside, pet, meat, feathers, macaws
Materials: Debate environment in the lab, case, Digalo2, observation in situ (visit to the Merey farm, in charge: Teacher Aleida Gaelves and Main Researcher Edith Llanos), writing activity, reading activity, ICT activity, pictures, videos
Description of the case: Issue from Puerto Carreño Vichada
In Puerto Carreño, some people raise many birds like hens, chicken, ducks, gallinetas, quails and turkeys to have fresh eggs. They are easy to feed and provide meat, eggs, and feathers. These birds are fowls (captive birds) or poultry (domestic birds). They are docile and raised for consume and sometime as a pets. Some people raise these animals in large areas of the country side  far from the city, others, raise them at homes to get fresh eggs in the city. What do you think about it. Do you like  pets and chicken raised in the city or do you like pets and chicken raised in the farms. Why?
Interview  (at the end): Spanglish, English or Spanish
1.      Do you need to raise chickens in the city to get fresh eggs?

3.      What are the disadvantages of having birds as pets?
